Sometimes snoring is just snoring. But sometimes snoring is associated with repetitive pauses in breathing, gasping and/or choking, caused by airway obstruction. This sleep disorder is known as sleep apnea. Apnea is dangerous and can lead to things like heart attack, stroke and diabetes, just to name a few negative consequences.
Sleep apnea and snoring tend to be a more common problem when we sleep on our backs. This is due to the effects that gravity has on the structures within the airway while laying in this position. We are sure you have noticed that your bed partner’s snoring and sometimes breathing irregularities are much worse when your partner sleeps supine.
For folks who experience snoring and apnea at night, primarily while sleeping on their back, positional therapy can be a simple solution. Consider this useful device, the SLUMBERBUMP belt which keeps the sleeping individual on their sides during the night. When the person is encouraged to sleep laterally, there will be a reduction or elimination of their previously noted snoring and breathing problems.
The result, a quieter night and better sleep for YOU and YOUR LOVED ONE.
SLUMBERBUMP can be purchased from our Kelowna office (please call ahead 250-681-4326) or from our online store: https://squareup.com/store/community-sleep-coach-inc
